Description
Cabot’s Water Based Deck and Exterior Stain
is a highly durable stain that outlasts traditional decking stains. Engineered to rejuvenate and transform the color of all exterior timber, this stain provides a long-lasting, beautiful finish and is available in a selection of 48 vibrant colors. The advanced dual technology protects against dirt and mold, while also offering water repellency and UV protection.
To prepare new bare timber for coating, scrub the damp timber with
Cabot’s New Timber Prep
as per the label instructions. This product quickly draws out tannins and oils from the surface, allowing you to bypass the usual 4-6 weeks weathering process. Follow up with
Cabot’s Deck Clean
according to the label instructions. Remove excess water using a squeegee on Cabot’s Deck Prep brush and let the timber dry for at least one hour. Note that cooler conditions may extend the drying time.
For previously painted or varnished timber, strip back to bare timber using a paint stripper or by sanding. Clean exterior surfaces with
Cabot’s Deck Clean
following the label instructions. For previously stained and oiled timber, clean with Cabot’s Deck Clean and test the surface by sprinkling water on it. If water beads, repeat the Deck Clean application. If water is absorbed, the timber is ready for coating. For a more transparent look, sand the timber back to bare and clean with Cabot’s Deck Clean before coating. For weathered and grey timber, sand back to fresh substrate and clean with Cabot’s Deck Clean as per the label instructions.
APPLICATION
1. Stir thoroughly with a broad flat paddle before and during use.
2. Apply liberally along the length of the board, including exposed edges and end grain, using a brush or pad applicator. The initial milky color aids in even product application, drying to a semi-transparent finish.
3. Allow the first coat to dry for 2 hours, then apply a second coat using the same method.
MAINTENANCE
Every 12 months, inspect your coated timber for changes in color or diminished water repellency due to weathering. When necessary:
1. Clean the surfaces with Deck Clean as per the label instructions.
2. Recoat with 1-2 coats of Deck & Exterior Stain OB.
